Illumination Works (ILW) is proud to announce the award of an Air Force Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Direct to Phase II (D2P2) contract to build upon ILW’s existing innovations to develop a holistic solution, Odin-Acquisition Milestone Documentation Automation (Odin-AMDA), to assist the Department of the Air Force (DAF) in weapon system acquisition life cycle management. Odin-AMDA will track the program’s progress toward milestone goals and assist in automating the development of reports, plans, and documentation required to meet statutory and regulatory requirements.

AI-Driven Acquisition Life Cycle Automation

The Air Force seeks innovative solutions to empower Program Managers and Program Management Offices (PMO) by consolidating, curating, and crosslinking contractual deliverables and other documents that feed the myriad of reports, reviews, and milestone requirements within the DoD acquisition life cycle. Presently, managing acquisition documentation is time- and person-power intensive, with limited enabling technologies or automation available to assist PMO staff.

Intelligent Data Extraction & Fusion

ILW offers the Air Force our artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled intelligent data extraction, fusion, and insight generation solution. Odin-AMDA brings machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) techniques to drive automation into acquisition life cycle reporting. Odin-AMDA is a robust web-hosted/cloud-based application with supporting databases and AI-enabled processing engines that collectively organize the data sources feeding the generation of program life cycle documents.

“We are thrilled to be part of this exciting endeavor with the Department of Defense (DoD) to streamline documentation throughout the DoD acquisition process and alleviate extensive manual workloads. It’s an incredible opportunity to contribute to such a vital effort and make a significant impact on efficiency and effectiveness. I can’t wait to dive in and work collaboratively towards this important goal!”

Jan Turkelson

VP Government Division, Illumination Works

“We have a great team of experts, and I am excited to be part of the team building this solution. After hearing firsthand some of the frustrations around the acquisition documentation process, I am eager to begin working with the Air Force on a user interface that is simple to use and saves valuable time when curating these important documents.”

Curation, Automation & Decision Support

Odin-AMDA will assist in the development of reports and plans required throughout the weapon system life cycle to meet statutory and regulatory requirements dictated by DoD 5000.01 directives. Over the 19-month effort, ILW will bring Odin-AMDA to a robust, production-ready state that fulfills the Air Force’s need for curation, automation, and decision support in the management and creation of weapon system acquisition life cycle documentation. This D2P2 effort will prove out Odin-AMDA’s capabilities to automatically populate sections of a foundational acquisition life cycle document, the Life Cycle Sustainment Plan (LCSP), as well as automate understanding of program status toward acquisition milestone reviews and goals.

Benefits & Outcomes

Odin-AMDA will act as an enabling technology to speed acquisition milestone document generation by allowing users to quickly explore program health by milestone goal, understand and edit pre-existing content availability, and generate acquisition documents. Through human-machine teaming, subject matter experts will be able to quickly review and accept derived content, modify as desired, add notes, and finalize documentation in a fraction of the current time. A user-friendly dashboard interface will showcase status of specific acquisition deliverables and their availability for review and downstream use.
