Illumination Works is proud to announce our award for a Navy Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) project to leverage cutting-edge machine learning (ML) and simulation modeling techniques coupled with weighted decision rules, via industry-proven multicriteria decision making methods.

The Department of the Navy (DON) seeks a decision aide to automate and modernize STANDARD Missile (SM) maintenance processes and procedures with the goal of reducing manpower and life cycle costs while ensuring readiness in alignment with the DON’s surface-launched missile maintenance philosophy and the overarching Maintenance and Material Management procedures.

For this effort, Illumination Works has proposed a novel solution, the SM Automated Reliability and Trending (SMART) Decision Support Tool. SMART’s proactive and prescriptive decision support elements are provided via an interactive user interface that serves key insights to end users. This will improve the overall efficiency of the SM sustainment process and better scale knowledge across the organization.

Throughout this Phase I SBIR, Illumination Works will prove out the feasibility of applying ML, simulation modeling, and weighted decision rules for SM predictive maintenance, reliability forecasting, maintenance planning, and fleet readiness optimization.

This new partnership with the Navy is an exciting endeavor for Illumination Works. We are eager to assist the SM maintenance community by proving out the feasibility of leveraging machine learning to streamline predictive maintenance planning and reliability and readiness forecasting.
